Frequently Asked Questions
How long does therapy typically last?
At Sunset Trauma Therapy and Consultation, we understand that healing and growth take time. Therapy is not a quick fix, but rather a journey of self-exploration and transformation. We believe in the benefits of long-term therapy because it allows individuals to delve deep into their experiences and emotions, and gradually unravel the layers that prevent them from living their fullest lives. In this safe and nurturing space, created by our compassionate therapists, clients can form a trusting relationship that unfolds over time. Long-term therapy provides the opportunity for personal insights, increased self-awareness, and the development of healthier coping mechanisms. Through consistent and ongoing support, individuals can truly heal from past wounds and cultivate the resilience needed to navigate life's challenges with grace. Remember, change takes time, and we are here to walk alongside you every step of the way.
Why does therapy cost so much?
Investing in your mental health through therapy is truly an invaluable gift to yourself. While it's understandable that the cost of therapy may sometimes seem daunting, the benefits it brings are immeasurable. By embarking on this journey, you are choosing to prioritize your wellbeing and make meaningful strides towards living a more fulfilling life. Therapy provides a safe and welcoming space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. It equips you with crucial tools, insights, and coping mechanisms to navigate life's challenges with resilience and self-awareness. In making this investment, you are expressing a profound commitment to your personal growth and inner peace. Remember, you are deserving of the support, guidance, and healing that therapy can offer. Both of our therapist do offer limited sliding scale spots which can be inquired about during consultation.
When will I start noticing progress?
Therapy is a collaborative process that involves a trained therapist and an individual seeking support and growth. The journey towards progress varies for each person, as it is influenced by their unique circumstances, goals, and therapeutic approach. Initially, therapy focuses on establishing rapport, trust, and a safe environment, which allows individuals to explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Progress can start to manifest once this foundation is established, often leading to increased self-awareness, insight, self-regulation and clarity. As therapy continues, individuals may experience breakthroughs, develop coping strategies, and cultivate new perspectives, leading to tangible changes in their lives. While progress can be observed at any point during therapy, it is important to remember that it is a gradual process that unfolds over time, as personal growth and healing take time and effort.

Do you accept insurance?
We are now contracted in network with Aetna and Optum. We use a third-party platform to submit insurance claims on your behalf, Alma. If you would like to use insurance, please reach out to our team, or through the platform of Alma and request a consultation for therapy. Outside of those two insurances, our team of therapists are considered out-of-network providers.
Benefits of Out-of-Network Therapists
1. Greater Choice: By working with an out-of-network therapist, individuals are not limited to the providers covered by their insurance plan. This allows for access to a wider pool of specialized therapists who may better meet specific needs.
2. Confidentiality: Some individuals prefer to keep their therapy sessions private and not have details of their treatment shared with their insurance companies. Working with an out-of-network therapist allows for enhanced confidentiality and privacy.
3. No Insurance Restrictions: Out-of-network therapists often have more flexibility in their treatment approaches and sessions compared to some in-network therapists who may be restricted by insurance policies.
Submitting Superbills for Reimbursement
Although seeing an out-of-network therapist may require greater financial commitment upfront, individuals can often seek reimbursement from their insurance company through the process of submitting superbills. A superbill is an itemized statement or invoice provided by the therapist that contains the necessary information for reimbursement.
To optimize the submission of superbills for reimbursement, one can follow these steps:
1. Check Your Insurance Plan: Review your insurance plan to understand whether it provides coverage for out-of-network mental health services and what reimbursement rates are offered.
2. Connect with Your Therapist: Inform your therapist that you would like to submit superbills for reimbursement. They can provide the necessary information, including a detailed invoice, treatment codes used, and any other documentation required by your insurance company.
3. Payment: Pay for your therapy sessions upfront or as agreed upon with your therapist. Wait for reimbursement from your insurance provider.
